Here are some basics to get you going towards table-top perfection:
- Which knives and forks go where? An easy way to remember the correct order to place the cutlery is that they go in the order in which you use them. Begin on the outside, and work your way inwards towards the plate. Turn the blade of all knifes so they face toward the plate.
- Side plates go to the left of your place setting.
- Place the wineglass at the tip of the main-course knife. All other glasses can be arranged in the order that they will be used.
- Why not create some fancy name cards ahead of time? Use a calligraphy font or hand write the names yourself. Better yet, why not ask the kids to make them?
- For an unforgettable touch, why not leave a small gift at each place setting? Fill small glass jars with sugared almonds, jam or candy, wrap them in ribbon and give them a holiday look.
